Today, August 17, 2016, openSUSE Project's Douglas DeMaio has informed the community about the latest software updates pushed to the Tumbleweed repos during the last few days.

According to Mr. DeMaio, there were a total of six snapshots released for the OpenSuSE Tumbleweed rolling operating system, starting with last week's version 20160808, which brought the KDE Plasma 5.7.2 desktop environment update, and ending with the latest snapshot, version 20160815, updating the gstreamer-plugins-bad, libgusb, and Opus codecs. Then, we are provided with some details about the upcoming Beta releases of Leap.

"This week Tumbleweed appears to have a strong wind making it roll remarkably fast as openSUSE’s popular rolling release had six snapshots since the last update was published," says Douglas DeMaio. "New packages in openSUSE Factory will automatically be submitted for the next release of Leap until Beta 2. Beta 2 is the freeze to get packages into the release of openSUSE Leap 42.2."

Mozilla Firefox 48.0, Xen 4.7.0, Wine 1.9.16, and more

While openSUSE Tumbleweed snapshot 20160810 and 20160811 updated the GRUB2 bootloader and added the Wine 1.9.16, GNOME Photos 3.20.3, Python3-setuptools 25.1.6, and Xen 4.7.0, the 20160812 snapshot brought the latest Mozilla Firefox 48.0 web browser, KDE Plasma 5.7.3 desktop environment, QEMU 2.6.0, and new versions of the NetworkManager-openvpn and gfxboot packages.

On the other hand, snapshot 20160813 updated the systemd, kernel-source, Yast2-firstboot, and multipath-tools packages. Therefore, we recommend all users of the openSUSE Tumbleweed operating system to update their systems as soon as possible if they want to receive all the goodies mentioned above. In the meantime, the openSUSE developers are working hard on the openSUSE Leap 42.2 release.

The first Beta of the upcoming openSUSE Leap 42.2 operating system should be available for public testing sometime at the end of time, on August 31, 2016, according to the release schedule. A second Beta build will be published on September 21, followed by the first Release Candidate (RC) version on October 6 and the second one on October 18. The final release of openSUSE Leap 42.2 could land in the first week of November 2016.
