Various bugs have been squashed in this update

Today, August 23, 2016, KDE announced the release of the fourth maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment, bringing multiple improvements and bug fixes.

KDE Plasma 5.7.4 is here three weeks after the release of the third point release in the latest stable series of the modern desktop environment used in numerous GNU/Linux operating systems by default, and it promises to address various of the issues reported by users since then.

"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.7.4. Plasma 5.7 was released in August with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience," reads today's announcement. "This release adds three weeks' worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors."

Among the components that received improvements in KDE Plasma 5.7.4, we can mention Plasma Desktop, KWin, Plasma Workspace, Plasma Audio Volume Control, Powerdevil, Plasma Discover, Plasma Addons, KScreen, libkscreen, kactivitymanagerd, and the Breeze icons. KDE Plasma 5.7.5 to land on September 13, 2016

In the meantime, we recommend that you check the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution for the KDE Plasma 5.7.4 update, which should land in the next hours or days, depending on how fast the maintainers of the KDE packages of the respective OS are. Live ISO images with KDE Plasma 5 are also available for download, along with the source and instructions to compile it.

The development cycle of the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment will continue with one more maintenance update, namely KDE Plasma 5.7.5, due for release on September 13, 2016, marking the end of life of the series. After that, users will be able to upgrade to the KDE Plasma 5.8 desktop environment, which promises to be an LTS (Long Term Support) branch.
