A new maintenance update of the lightweight Enlightenment open-source desktop environment has been released recently for Linux kernel-based operating systems, namely version 0.21.2.

As you might have already guessed, Enlightenment 0.21.2 is the second point release in the stable 0.21 series of the graphical desktop environment used in various GNU/Linux distributions, and it promises to address more than 30 reported issues, but also to add various much-needed improvements to keep it stable and reliable. All the details about the new changes are available for your reading pleasure at the end of the article.

Probably the most important change in the Enlightenment 0.21.2 release is the fact that it is now possible to build it with support for the next-generation Wayland display server against the newly released Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL) version 1.18.0, which brought lots of enhancements and new features, such as JavaScript eolian bindings or a new library for input handling based on libinput.

Enlightenment 0.21.2 is now available in your distro's repositories

As mentioned before, the main goal of the Enlightenment desktop environment is to be as lightweight as possible, but at the same time beautiful and modern. Enlightenment 0.21 is the most advanced stable branch, released at the end of June 2016, and it brought better Wayland support, wizard enhancements, a new gadget infrastructure, and support for video backgrounds.

Enlightenment 0.21.2 is now available in the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux operating system, so we recommend that you update to this latest maintenance version as soon as possible, especially if you're using the Wayland display server by default. Power users and OS vendors can also download the Enlightenment 0.21.2 sources right now via our website and start compiling it. More details can be found in the official release notes.
