A new major release of the popular Git open-source and cross-platform distributed version control system has been announced. We're referring to version 2.10, which brings hundreds of changes to make your development process easier and more productive.

Git 2.10 is here to add over 150 improvements since the previous stable branch, Git 2.9, which received a total of three maintenance updates since its launch on mid-June 2016. Yes, only two and a half months have passed since Git 2.9, and Git 2.10 is here with many other goodies for application developers who love to use Git for their projects.

Currently known as the world's most employed distributed revision control system, Git offers you the best tools for conducting source code management operations locally or remotely. Git it also popular because it is used as default distributed version control system on the GitHub project hosting website.

Git 2.10 is now available for download

As mentioned before, Git 2.10 includes hundreds of changes, ranging from improvements to basic commands and the implementation of new options, to fixes for some of the most annoying bugs reported by users since Git 2.9 or the 2.9.3 milestone. It will be impractical for us to list here all these changes, so we've attached the full changelog below if you're curious to know what exactly has been changed in this major update.

In the meantime, we recommend that you update your GNU/Linux distribution to Git 2.10 as soon as possible because it is already available for download on our website, and you can also install it right now from the main software repositories of your operating system. We always recommend users to use the latest version of their most used software to avoid any crashes or other security threats.
