Now that the GUADEC (GNOME Users And Developers European Conference) event for the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.22 desktop environment has come to an end, the GNOME Project is already planning for the next year's installation.

Yes, that's right, the host city of GUADEC 2017 has been announced as Manchester, which means two things. First and foremost, this means that the GNOME 3.26 desktop environment release will be dubbed Manchester, because of the new codenaming method implemented last year during the GUADEC 2015 event.

And if you haven't already guessed, it also means that GUADEC 2017 will be held in Manchester, UK (United Kingdon), where GNOME developers, contributors, and users can gather together to lay down the plans and information needed for unleashing one of the best releases of the popular and widely-used desktop environment for Linux OSes.

"Manchester is located about 160 miles (260 km) northwest of London," reads the announcement. "It has a long history of being a place of learning and innovation, with over 20 Nobel Prize winners having worked or studied in Manchester, Chetham’s Library being the oldest public library in the English-speaking world."

GNOME 3.26 to land in September 2017

If you haven't noticed yet, we're already talking here about the next GNOME release after GNOME 3.24, whose codename is yet to be announced based on the host city of the upcoming GNOME.Asia Summit 2017 conference, which should take place in April next year. GNOME 3.24 will be officially unveiled in March 2017.

Until then, we'll be able to install the forthcoming GNOME 3.22 desktop environment in our GNU/Linux computers very soon, as the Release Candidate (RC) development milestone is about to land later today, September 14, and the final version will hit the streets next Wednesday, on September 21, 2016.

Of course, there's no official information yet to confirm that GNOME 3.26 will be the next release after GNOME 3.24, and all we know right now is that GUADEC 2017 will be held on the last weekend of July 2017, and GNOME 3.26 "Manchester" might be unleashed in late September 2017.
