The KDE Neon development team proudly announced a few minutes ago the release of the KDE Neon 5.8 User Edition GNU/Linux distribution with the recently released KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop environment.

We were the first to report on October 4, 2016, the release of the KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop environment, which already hit the "Community-Testing" repositories of the Arch Linux operating system, but you can enjoy it right now on your KDE Neon installation, thanks to the release of the KDE Neon 5.8 User Edition Live ISO.

"The KDE neon builders have been firing away this afternoon and Plasma 5.8 LTS is now available in the User Edition archive," reads today's announcement. "If you don’t already have KDE neon installed you can grab the latest User Edition ISO to install it on your hard disk."

Existing users need only update their installations

If you're using the KDE Neon operating system on your personal computer, you need to update your installation to receive the new KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS packages and enjoy a better, more stable and more reliable KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment that will get extended, long-term support until April 2018.

There are many cool new features shipping with the KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop environment, which is a recommended upgrade for anyone using KDE Plasma 5.7 or a previous release. Also, for the first time in the history of KDE Plasma 5, the development team recommends it for everyday use to all Linux users.

Therefore, we invite you to download the KDE Neon 5.8 Live ISO images right now from the project's website if you want to enjoy the new KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop on your personal computer. KDE Neon is a rolling release, so you'll get new updates as soon as they are released upstream.
