We already told you about the release date and schedule of the GNOME 3.24 desktop environment, whose development cycle will start later this month, and today we'd love to tell you a little bit about its upcoming features.

As you might expect, the GNOME development team always comes with new ideas to improve the widely-used desktop environment, meaning the core components and applications included in the GNOME Stack. In GNOME 3.24, a lot of these applications and tools will see a large number of improvements, both visually and internally.

GNOME Control Center appears to be the center of attraction in GNOME 3.24, and it will offer revamped User Accounts and Printer settings panels to match the new design, along with an updated Online Accounts settings panel that should add various improvements to Kerberos integration.

Furthermore, the GNOME Music audio playback app will get tag editing support, as well as ownCloud integration so that you can listen to your favorite tracks stored on a private ownCloud cloud server. There will also be a new sharing framework implemented in GNOME 3.24, which makes use of portals.

Photo import from devices in GNOME Photos, browse files as root

Among the other enhancements that should be added in the upcoming GNOME 3.24 desktop environment, due for release on March 22, 2017, we can mention the ability to import photos from a device in GNOME Photos, along with the ability to browse files as root (system administrator) in the Nautilus (Files) file manager.

Other than that, there will be a new application for managing stored passwords and secret keys as a replacement for the now deprecated Seahorse utility, as well as a much-improved Epiphany (Web) web browser app that should sport a revamped address bar and better bookmarks experience.
