Today, October 21, 2016, the developers of the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux operating system proudly announced the availability for download of the first test build of the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" release.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" was announced last month and, since then, the development team behind this ready-to-use and easy-to-install GNU/Linux distribution have worked hard to bring you all the latest applications and components from the recently released GNOME 3.22 Stack.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 (code name Nev) ships with stable GNOME 3.22 desktop environment and an updated kernel," reads today's announcement. "This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of Oct 12 2016. Parsix Nev ships with LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default."

As you can see, the distro remains based on the stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" repositories, yet it ships with the brand-new GNOME 3.22 desktop environment and the GNOME Shell 3.22.1 user interface. The kernel packages used in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 are based on the long-term supported Linux 4.4 branch, patched with TuxOnIce and BFS.

Here's what's included in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test 1

Not all components are at their latest versions, as these are the builds available upstream, in the Debian Stable repos, so Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test 1 ships with the X.Org Server 1.16.4 display server, Glibc (GNU C Library) 2.19, LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite, Gparted 0.19.0 partition editor, and VirtualBox 4.3.36 virtualization software.

Additionally, users will find more recent software, such as the Mozilla Firefox 49.0 and Chromium 53.0 web browsers, GIMP 2.8.14 image editor, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Empathy 3.12.12 instant messenger, and Grisbi 1.0.1 personal financial management program. Adobe Flash Player has been updated as well to version 11.2.202.635.

Nvidia and AMD users will be pleased to learn that they'll be able to install the Nvidia 340.96 and ATI/AMD Catalyst 15.12 proprietary graphics drivers from the main repositories. Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test 1 is available for download right now via our website for 64-bit and 32-bit systems. Please report bugs if you encounter them!
