Users of the openSUSE Tumbleweed rolling distribution should be happy to hear that the repositories were flooded this week with hundreds of updated packages.

It appears that a total of 13 new snapshots have been pushed since our last report, and they brought lots of goodies, starting with the Linux 4.8.9 kernel, Mozilla Firefox 50.0 web browser, Mesa 13.0.1 3D Graphics Library, KDE Frameworks 5.28.0, KDE Applications 16.08.3, CMake 3.7.0, Wireshark 2.2.2, YaST2 3.2.4, and AutoYast2 3.2.3.

"News of Linux releases are getting most of the headlines during November while snapshots of OpenSuSE Tumbleweed have subtly been flying under the radar," said Douglas DeMaio in today's announcement. "Other than Nov. 3 and Nov. 6, openSUSE Tumbleweed had updated software snapshots released every day this month."

More GNOME 3.22.2 updates, libvirt improvements

Those who prefer the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment, should know that the Polari, Orca, Mutter, and Lights Off and Swell Foop were updated to version 3.22.2, the perl-DBD-SQLite, perl-Log-Log4perl, and perl-XML-XPath libraries got new builds, and several new subpackages have been implemented in the libvirt virtualization API.

Claws Mail 3.14.1, libdrm 2.4.73, aria2 1.29.0, python-ldap 2.4.28, python-pyOpenSSL 16.2.0, python3-cffi 1.9.1, whois 5.2.13, hwinfo 21.37, Mono 4.6.2, and new versions of the perl-DBD-mysql, perl-JSON-XS, and perl-Log-Dispatch libraries landed as well. Therefore, we recommend updating your openSUSE Tumbleweed PCs immediately.

On the other hand, if you prefer the rock-solid feel of the openSUSE Leap distribution, we recommend that you download and install the recently unveiled openSUSE Leap 42.2 release, which is based on the sources of the SUSE Enterprise Linux (SLE) 12 Service Pack 2 (SP2) operating system. Also, please note that openSUSE 13.2 will reach end of life on January 16, 2017.
