Today, December 1, 2016, openSUSE Project's Douglas DeMaio gladly informed the community of the openSUSE Tumbleweed operating system about the updated packages that landed in the repositories.

Four more snapshots have been released for OpenSuSE Tumbleweed since our last report, and they brought some interesting things, among which we can mention the Linux 4.8.10 kernel, Oracle’s VirtualBox 5.1.10 virtualization software, Vim 8.0.0092 advanced text editor, and Mozilla Thunderbird to 45.5.0 email and news client.

"November brought openSUSE Tumbleweed users an early holiday gift with 24 snapshots of new software and four updated Linux kernels," said Douglas DeMaio in today's announcement. "The continuous snapshot streak of Tumbleweed updates ended with snapshot 20161123, which brought kernel 4.8.10."

ImageMagick updated to version 6.9.6.5, KDE Plasma 5.8.4 landed as well

There are also some good news for those who use the KDE Plasma desktop environment, as the latest maintenance update of the LTS (Long Term Support) series has landed as well in the repositories of openSUSE Tumbleweed, dubbed KDE Plasma 5.8.4, and ImageMagick was updated to version 6.9.6.5.

Furthermore, the recently released GTK 3.22.4 GUI toolkit arrived too with its Wayland improvements, and the Yast2-storage and Yast2-bootloader packages have been updated to version 3.2.1 and 3.2.10, respectively. The Epiphany 3.22.3 web browser was pushed as well into a recent snapshot, along with winetricks and Wine 1.9.24, LFTP 4.7.4, and file 5.29.

Multiple upstream Bash patches were applied as well. Of course, many other internal components and libraries received patches for small issues, so it is recommended that you update your openSUSE Tumbleweed installation as soon as possible to get all the goodies mentioned above and, at the same time, keep your system secure and safe from hackers.
