Today is the first day of December 2016, which means that we can now download a new ISO respin image of the popular and lightweight Arch Linux operating system.

That's right, Arch Linux 2016.12.01 has been released just a few moments ago, and it's the last Live ISO respin for 2016, bringing with it the latest Linux 4.8.11 kernel, as well as all the updates that have been pushed in the stable repositories of the GNU/Linux distribution during the month of November.

Of course, new Arch Linux ISO respins are designed only for those who plan on reinstalling their systems because of various reasons or deploy the operating system on new computers without the need to download and install hundreds of updated packages from the official repos.

Existing users don't need to download the ISO image

If you're using Arch Linux and have a healthy installation, then there's no need for you to download Arch Linux 2016.12.01, as all you have to do to keep your system up to date with the latest security fixes and software releases is to run the "sudo pacman -Syu" command in a terminal emulator or the virtual console.

That being said, you can download the Arch Linux 2016.12.01 ISO image right now from the distribution's official website or via our web portal if you plan new deployments or a reinstall. As usual, you'll get a dual-arch image that features a live system, which you can install on either 64- or 32-bit computers.

We recommend reading our "A Beginners' Guide to Installing Arch Linux" in-depth tutorial just in case you don't know how to install the independent and highly customizable operating system based on the latest GNU/Linux and Open Source technologies.
