With the GNOME 3.30 desktop environment already arriving in the stable software repositories of some of the most popular GNU/Linux distributions and the next release, GNOME 3.32, hitting the development channels soon, the GNOME Project set the dates for the GUADEC 2019 conference, which will take place between August 23rd and 28th in Thessaloniki, Greece.

"The GNOME Foundation is excited to announce that GUADEC 2019 will take place from the 23rd to 28th of August in Thessaloniki, Greece. GUADEC, the GNOME User and Developer European Conference, brings together hundreds of users and developers every year to further the GNOME Project, and it is one of our longest-standing and most noteworthy events," reads the announcement.

For GNOME 3.34

GUADEC is the main and biggest event for GNOME fans, where all GNOME developers and contributors gather together to share their ideas and plan the features of the next major release of the GNOME desktop environment, which is used in numerous Linux-based operating systems, including the popular Ubuntu. GUADEC 2019 will be the event for GNOME 3.34 desktop environment.

Therefore, the GNOME 3.34 desktop environment will be dubbed "Thessaloniki" after the host city of the GUADEC 2019 event. However, GNOME 3.34 hasn't been announced yet and is should be released after GNOME 3.32, which is currently scheduled for release on March 13, 2019. It looks like GNOME 3.32 is dubbed "Taipei" after the host city of the GNOME.Asia Summit 2018.
