ExTiX 18.10 Is the First Linux Distro Based on Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish)

GNU/Linux and Open Source software developer Arne Exton announced over the weekend the release of what it would appear to be the first Linux distro based on the upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system.

Dubbed "The Ultimate Linux System," ExTiX 18.10 Build 181006 is out now with Arne Exton's 4.18.12-exton kernel based on the latest stable Linux 4.18.12 kernel, which can be downloaded and installed on virtually any another Ubuntu- or Debian-based system, as well as the latest LXQt 0.13.0 desktop environment.

The operating system includes packages from the forthcoming Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system, due for release on October 18, as well as from the Debian Stable repositories. It comes with the Calamares universal installer, which lets users install ExTiX on older, non-efi computers, as well as all the latest software updates.

"ExTiX 18.10 LXQt DVD 64 bit is based on Debian and upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish (to be released 181018). The original system includes the desktop environment GNOME. After removing GNOME, I have installed LXQt 0.13.0," said Arne Exton in the release announcement.

Build your own Ubuntu 18.10-based Linux distro with Refracta tools

Like previous releases, ExTiX 18.10 ships with the Refracta tools, which lets you build your own Ubuntu 18.10-based Linux distro. According to the developer, Refracta tools will allow you to create your own live, installable Ubuntu-based operating system, and can even be used by a 10-year-old child.

ExTiX 18.10 Build 181006 is now available for download for 64-bit computers as a hybrid ISO image that you can write on a USB flash drive or a DVD media. When using ExTiX from a USB stick, you'll also get persistence support so you can save configurations and reuse the live media whenever you want. Moreover, ExTiX can boot from RAM.
