Offensive Security released Kali Linux 2018.4, the fourth and last snapshot in 2018 for their ethical hacking and penetration testing GNU/Linux distribution, the successor of BackTrack Linux.

Since there won't be any new snapshot released in 2018, Kali Linux 2018.4 packs several updated hacking tools, including Binwalk, Burp Suite, Faraday, Fern-Wifi-Cracker, Gobuster, Patator, RSMangler, theHarvester, WPScan, and others, as well as a new tool, namely the well-known, open-source WireGuard secure VPN tunnel.

"We have only added one new tool to the distribution in this release cycle but it’s a great one," reads the announcement. "Wireguard is a powerful and easy to configure VPN solution that eliminates many of the headaches one typically encounters setting up VPNs. Check out our Wireguard post for more details on this great addition."

64-bit Raspberry Pi 3 image now available for testing

Another exciting new feature of the Kali Linux 2018.4 release is the availability of a Raspberry Pi 3 image that lets users install and use the ethical hacking and penetration testing distro on their tiny single-board computers. The Raspberry Pi 3 image supports 64-bit mode, but please note that it's currently in a beta form, so watch out for bugs.

Under the hood, the Kali Linux 2018.4 release is powered by the Linux 4.18.10 kernel, which offers a better layer of security and hardware support to the GNU/Linux distribution. You can download Kali Linux 2018.4 right now with the various flavors available, or update your existing installations with the following command.

sudo apt update && apt -y full-upgrade Since there's a new kernel available for your Kali Linux machine, you should reboot after executing the above command.
