The kernel team is working on final integration for kernel 5.9. This version was just recently released, and will arrive soon in Fedora. As a result, the Fedora kernel and QA teams have organized a test week from Monday, October 26, 2020 through Monday, November 02, 2020. Refer to the wiki page for links to the test images you’ll need to participate. Read below for details.
How does a test week work?
A test week is an event where anyone can help make sure changes in Fedora work well in an upcoming release. Fedora community members often participate, and the public is welcome at these events. If you’ve never contributed before, this is a perfect way to get started.
To contribute, you only need to be able to do the following things:
- Download test materials, which include some large files
- Read and follow directions step by step
The wiki page for the kernel test day has a lot of good information on what and how to test. After you’ve done some testing, you can log your results in the test day web application. If you’re available on or around the day of the event, please do some testing and report your results. We have a document which provides all the steps written.

Cool, I will help test because I have the Red Hat tree in my DNA. Fedora gave so much to the world, its time ppl give a little back to Fedora. Fedora is open source, so we should open our herts and do some testing. Fedora is free so we should freely give our time and testing ability. After all, Fedora did so much for all of us, its the least we could do to help a bit with testing.

So Fedora 33 is supposed to be out of beta by the 27th, is this testing the same kernel for F-33? Or did they delay F33 for the week of final kernel testing?

No, Fedora 33 is released on kernel 5.8.x but will be rebased on 5.9 some time in November (as F32 will be). This testing is unrelated to today’s F33 release.

Fedora does not ship the NVIDIA driver since it is not free. The opensource driver nouveau will support Nvidia cards on kernel 5.9.x, so not a problem.

The group number did not match the password file number, which did not match the usual #1000 as the admin,first user.
For the record, I redid the installation with just gnome and KDE, and everything is fine.
I am also finding that after a computer power-on, the first boot locks up before the login screen is presented. On system reset and reboot, the system presents the logon screen and everything is fine.

Using the ISO, I installed and tested the new Kernel. Works for all the desktop functions I use. The ISO details are confusing. Some part says F33, but what is installled is Fedora32.

“The Arch Linux team is warning their users (and other people running very up to date versions of the Linux kernel) that Linux 5.9 is somewhat incompatible with NVIDIA video drivers. While basic graphic functions should continue to work, some other driver features will not. “NVIDIA is currently partially incompatible with Linux >= 5.9. While graphics should work fine, CUDA, OpenCL, and likely other features are broken. Users who’ve already upgraded and need those features are advised to switch to the Linux LTS kernel for the time being until a fix for NVIDIA is available.” (Source: Distrowatch.com)
What’s about this warning in Fedora, would the Kernel-team consider this warning during the test week, because many Fedora users have a Nvidia-Graphics-card?

I hope that Fedora will not spam me with warnings concerning proprietary software. I use Fedora for a good reason. If I wanted to deal with the quirks of proprietary software, then I would use Windows to begin with.
