A Single Linux Binary Package Can Now Support All LSB Distributions for a Single Chipset Platform

OLD LYME, Conn., March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Lymeware Corporation, an innovative provider of telecom and security software solutions, today announced that its industry standard IAgent3 Interactive Agent product has achieved Linux Standard Base (LSB) 2.0 Application Certification on three of the most popular Linux chipsets. The LSB standard, architected by the Free Standards Group, is designed to provide binary application portability between Linux distributions and allow Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) the ability to target their development to a single unified Linux operating system standard and, in turn, allow them to reach a wider customer market.

"We are extremely pleased to see Lymeware achieve LSB 2.0 certification," said Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Free Standards Group. "This certification - along with the support of major ISVs - signals a tipping point in momentum for the LSB. First the distribution vendors pledged their support, now ISVs have followed. Lymeware is a great example of an ISV who understands the value of using an open standard to reach markets all over the world."

Lymeware strongly supports core Linux and industry standards and was the first company to be awarded LSB 2.0 Application certification. Lymeware was also the first company to attain this certification on the ia32/Intel x86, the ppc32/PowerPC, and the S/390 mainframe platforms. This newest release of the popular IAgent3 Secure Messaging Interactive Agent (IA) product now supports all LSB-compliant Linux distributions on any of these platforms.

"The quest is finally over. The holy grail of Linux binary compatibility has been found, and its name is LSB," affirmed Michael Kobar, Chief Technology Officer, Lymeware. "With LSB we are now able to provide our product as a single binary package per platform, and not per distribution. This alone has dramatically reduced our development environment requirements and vastly increased our target market. The ability to deliver a single binary product allows us to support dozens of Linux operating systems without any additional work on our side."

Lymeware has joined the Free Standards Group to help add the ISV perspective and developer experiences to LSB standards. With this the first in hopefully a long line of LSB Certified Applications, Lymeware hopes to profit from both an ever-increasing number of LSB Certified Runtimes (distributions), and from ongoing improvements of the LSB standard. The company's initial investment of time and resources should continue to pay dividends far into the future.

"Lymeware is delighted to achieve multiple LSB certifications for our IAgent3 application," said Carl Fox, Chief Financial Officer of Lymeware. "The LSB standards provide us with a cost-effective way to target our Linux development. Certifying our product saves us from having to test on and port to multiple environments and allows our developers to focus on building applications, not porting to and supporting multiple Linux distributions."

The Lymeware IAgent3 product is a conformal implementation of the Telecommunications Industry Forum (TCIF) Electronic Communications Interactive Agent, which allows secure EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) transactions with strong encryption, using open standards.

The Interactive Agent protocol is the U.S. telecommunications industry standard integration interface for wholesale ordering and pre-ordering of services and network elements, and is supported by all of the major Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs).

Lymeware has provided robust, secure, fast transport of EDI and non-EDI messages and electronic messaging since 1999, and has extensive communications and security experience.

A free 30-day evaluation of the full IAgent3 for LSB product is available upon request. About Lymeware
