Fasterfox by Tony Gentilcore was released on October 26, 2005. It provides real "performance and network tweaks for Firefox. Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay. "

Sometimes people wonder how come developers don't include performance hacks in their products. Several reasons exist and the one most often quoted says that: We want to provide the best options for the range of platforms we serve.

So, I usually wind up with about:config in the address bar of my Firefox browser. Thanks to Tony Gentilcore my Ubuntu 5.10 Firefox package now runs like it should have in the first place. This is a must package for people who complain about slow start-ups and hangs. I can even watch and see how fast pages load from the bottom bar in my browser.

Take a look at the options by visiting the Faster Fox Preview page.

To download and install FasterFox you can use your Tools menu and select extensions or go directly to the download page
