Outlines Plans to Embrace OpenCable(R) and Reaffirms Support for Open Standards

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Video Without Boundaries, Inc. (OTC: VDWB), a leading provider of interactive, media- convergent home entertainment devices, today announced it has created three highly focused initiatives for portable media devices, OpenCable-compliant high definition media centers and Consumer Electronics Software, Applications, and Content.

"VWB's management has created these new initiatives to specifically target areas of core competency and open up new areas of growth," said Video Without Boundaries, Inc. President and CEO Jeffrey Harrell. "We are extremely pleased with our initial product launch success and are well positioned to benefit from the unprecedented growth in portable media, broadband and interactive application technology. This is the first step in a barrage of planned activity for the company as we transition from a start-up to a growing and significant player in the industry." Portable Media

Following the successful launch of its first portable media product, Flyboy(TM), VWB plans to further broaden its product line and has created an initiative to focus specifically on the portable media category along with content and application distribution to its portables. The newly formed portable media initiative will launch a new line of flash based, low cost MP3 players. In addition, the company will be announcing details of a revolutionary portable video player and recorder which uses flash memory before the holidays this year. The new product will be the most competitively priced product in the market and further the company's goal of offering the exciting new world of portable media to as broad a consumer base as possible. There are also plans for a Flyboy HD unit which will greatly increase the Flyboy's screen resolution. Further work and development to bring to market wireless Internet capability or WiFi, Bluetooth, Web browsing, video capture, video conferencing, games, personal organization, high resolution screens, increased storage capacity, GPS, satellite radio reception, and increased battery life are also underway. OpenCable-Compliant High Definition Media Centers

VWB has been an early pioneer in media center technology with retail launches of the MediaREADY(TM) 4000 and 5000 digital media center products. With the further market acceptance of its own products and the incredible growth being seen at retail for this functionality, the company has started a high definition media center initiative to aggressively develop and bring to market a new breed of media center products that continue to benefit from and embrace open standards. To this end, VWB is announcing its plans to incorporate OpenCable support in its next generation media center products.

The OpenCable initiative, managed by the Advanced Platforms and Services group at CableLabs, was begun in 1997 with a goal of helping the cable industry deploy interactive services over cable. Like several other CableLabs projects, including DOCSIS(R) and PacketCable(TM), OpenCable will provide a set of industry standards, which will help accomplish this goal via three key objectives to define the next-generation digital consumer device, encourage supplier competition, and create a retail hardware platform.

As such, the OpenCable project has two key components: a hardware specification and a software specification. The hardware specification allows a receiver that can be sold at retail to provide interoperability. The software specification of the OpenCable project, called the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP(TM)), solves the problem of proprietary operating system software by creating a common platform upon which interactive services may be deployed.

"VWB's media center products already package the open standard operating system Linux as well as several other open standard components," said company CTO, Terry Glatt. "With this development, the VWB management team is leveraging its extensive knowledge and history in deploying two-way digital cable, HDTV, Internet networking, and PayTV products and services solutions. Our development of OpenCable compliant technology will further differentiate the company's products and offer consumers an exciting mix of product capability that has never been seen before." Consumer Electronics Software, Applications and Content

VWB has continued to build its internal software development team for support of its media center products. The company has decided to add additional focus to this area with the creation of the Consumer Electronics Software, Applications and Content initiative. Building on its strong foundation of a market tested and proven Linux-based consumer electronics operating system and application suite, the company intends to launch new broadband services and applications. The company will be working with third party developers, industry bodies and forums to create an absolutely breathtaking TV environment. The wide acceptance of broadband media content and services through services like Apple's iTunes further demonstrate the consumer's eagerness to get content to digital devices and VWB is in a position to break new ground in this emerging market.
