Deals and wins announced recently:

MySQL AB, an open source database developer has announced that it has been selected by Alcatel as a technology partner for development of Alcatel's future carrier-grade multimedia communication products.

Under the agreement, Alcatel will use the high-availability MySQL Cluster database in its Multi-access Data Server platform, to be used as part of several Alcatel network products, including the Home Location Register, IP Multimedia Home Subscriber Server and Unlicensed Mobile Access systems.

MySQL and Alcatel have been working together for more than a year, with the first field trials deployed this past summer. Alcatel is using MySQL Cluster as the repository for key subscriber information, which has to be available in real time whenever a phone call is made or any network service is accessed.

SOA Software, a provider of SOA and Web services management, security and governance products, has announced the acquisition of the X4ML Mainframe Web services platform from Merrill Lynch.

The purchase of this patent-pending technology provides SOA Software with a Mainframe Web services product complementing SOA Software's existing products to create, as company officials say, "a complete SOA Infrastructure offering, addressing B2B, legacy and distributed applications."

Merrill Lynch began designing and building X4ML in 2001 and is currently running version three of the platform in production, exposing and consuming more than 600 Web services and processing more than 1.5 million transactions per day. The team responsible for creating and managing the platform has joined SOA Software.

Opsware Inc., a provider of IT automation and utility computing software, has announced the expansion of its global reseller network with the addition of Cyphertech Pty. Ltd., a provider of IT security and compliance.

Based in Australia, Cyphertech will distribute Opsware's IT automation software across Australia and New Zealand to provide security and compliance for government customer deployments.

InterNetwork Experts, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of I-Sector Corporation, has announced that it has been chosen to expand the Cisco IP telephony implementation at The Schumacher Group.

The Schumacher Group manages hospital Emergency Departments in eleven states. The current Cisco CallManager system based at The Schumacher Group's Lafayette, Louisiana headquarters will be expanded to include the Dallas, Texas based billing and coding offices.

GEL Technology GmbH has announced the formation of IGEL Technology Inc. which will be headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The company's US operations were formed in 2001 as a branch office but company officials say a "recent surge in revenue combined with the growth in channel partners demanded a stronger presence and a long term commitment."

LightPointe, a designer and manufacturer of high-speed optical wireless products, has announced that Kenya Data Networks, a telecom operator in Africa, has deployed optical wireless links as part of one of the world's first wireless network rings.

KDN has installed three LightPointe FlightStrata 155 systems in a high-capacity metropolitan ring network for the city of Nairobi, Kenya.

Huawei Technologies, a strategic OEM partner for LightPointe, led the network integration, provisioning and installation for the wireless network deployment.
