RealNetworks's new Rhapsody Web-based streaming music service is now available for Linux and Macintosh users. Seemingly, users of just about any old version of Linux can use the service - all they need to do is download the plug-in necessary to stream the music data. The software has been tested on Linspire 5.0, Fedora Core 3.0, and SUSE 9.3, apparently with great results. Not a lot of testing has been done on other distros, so if you have any experience running on Debian or Mandrake, please let us know.

There are some limitations, however. Mac and Linux subscribers will not be able to buy songs or transfer music to a portable player from the Rhapsody service - they can only stream music through their browsers. However, this will likely be rectified in future.
