ARMONK, NY - 17 Mar 2006: IBM today announced that Dow Jones Indexes, a premier global provider of investable indexes, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), has selected IBM servers as the platform to calculate its suite of worldwide indexes and averages that are disseminated globally in real-time through major market data vendors and published in The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Dow Jones Newswires, MarketWatch and other Dow Jones and third-party publications. Dow Jones Indexes is an independent, full-service index provider, supplying accurate, reliable and transparent index data on a global basis.

“We have already seen a performance increase since migrated to IBM’s pSeries platform, giving us the ability to more easily adapt to increases in market activity. The IBM pSeries systems enable the Dow Jones Global Indexes and Dow Jones Averages real-time applications to scale which improves our positioning for financial market growth. Our applications will leverage the performance capabilities in pSeries/AIX architecture to produce, and support, new global indexes and averages to create new revenue streams,” said Michael A. Petronella, president, Dow Jones Indexes/Ventures. “IBM has provided our business with professional expertise and exceptional service, a hardware platform that efficiently meets our current needs and provides us with the scalability to match our rapid growth. I am confident that the IBM platform will be an integral part of our business unit’s success going forward.”

“IBM is the leader in delivering breakthrough technologies to UNIX customers that enable extraordinary on demand business performance,” said Ross A. Mauri, general manager, pSeries. “IBM’s POWER5 systems deliver faster, more energy efficient processors that boost speed, performance and value for today’s most intensive mission critical applications.”

Dow Jones indexes are delivered through a variety of real-time and end-of-day market data vendors. Major indexes are published daily in The Wall Street Journal’s “Money & Investing” section and weekly in the “Market Week” section of Barron’s, and are disseminated via radio and television. The Dow Jones Global Indexes and Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index are also published daily in The Wall Street Journal Europe’s “Global Finance Diary” section.

The System p5 570 servers running AIX feature IBM’s POWER5 processors, which deliver 64-bit computing power and features like Dynamic Logical Partitioning, simultaneous multithreading, and IBM’s Virtualization Engine™ to the midrange server market. The system is designed to scale with both UNIX and Linux enterprise applications on demand. Dow Jones Electronic Publishing and an extensive IBM team worked closely to enhance Dow Jones application performance.
