Here's your chance to own a copy of John Lion's book, "Lions' Commentary on Unix", autographed by Thompson, Ritchie, McKusick, Allman, Salus and Torvalds.

Jon "maddog" Hall reports:

USENIX is sponsoring a matching fund to develop money for the John Lion's chair at the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Part of this is an on-line auction at Ebay for a copy of John's book "Lions' Commentary on Unix" autographed by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie (co-developers of the original Unix system), Kirk McKusick, project lead for Berkeley BSD, and the copyright holder for the Daemon. Eric Allman, of sendmail fame, Peter Salus, historian of Unix, and last (but not least), Linus Torvalds, the architect and lead developer of the "Linux" kernel.

The winning bid, less retail value, shipping, etc., will be a donation to the John Lions Chair fund, and may be tax deductible where you live.

USENIX will match donations, up to $250,000, to "establish the John Lions Chair in Operating Systems at the University of New South Wales."

More to follow.
