While Computex Taipei 2007 is only a few months away, introduced last year at this international technology show was the Intel 965 Express Chipset. The 965 Express is marketed toward being a mainstream Core 2 Duo Chipset and will not replace the i975X, but is a step-up from the Pentium i955X Glenwood Chipset. However, ASUS has taken this mainstream Chipset and combined it with their engineering expertise to create the P5B Deluxe. Among the innovations are AI NOS, eight-phase power design, fan-less Chipset cooling, Stack Cool 2, array microphone, and WiFi-AP Solo. We had been introduced to many of these features previously when looking at such motherboards as the P5LD2 Deluxe and the M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi. On top of supporting all existing Intel LGA-775 processors, the P5B Deluxe fully supports Intel's Core 2 Quad-Core processor. ASUS markets this board as offering extreme performance with minimum noise and maximum power savings, but can this enthusiast board really deliver on its word?

Receiving the ASUS P5B Deluxe its packaging and contents were similar to the recently reviewed M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi. Included with the P5B Deluxe was an ASUS Array Microphone, WiFi-AP Solo antenna, manual, driver CD, I/O bracket, six SATA cables, three SATA power adapters, USB 2.0 expansion bracket, Firewire IEEE-1394a expansion bracket, Q-connector kit, ribbon IDE cable, and one ribbon FDD cable. We had first tried out the array microphone with the M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard and it proved to be very useful during gaming sessions -- as it had effectively reduced the amount of environmental outside sounds.
