DriveSavers' Digital Arts Division Celebrates 25 Percent Increase in New Clients

multi-platform data recovery, not necessarily libre - dcparris

LAS VEGAS, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- (NAB 2007; Booth #SU13610) -- DriveSavers, the worldwide leader in data recovery services, announced today that the company's Digital Arts Division has entered its third anniversary with a 25 percent increase in new clients that include feature film and television producer, Mike Barker.

Barker, producer of the television shows "American Dad" and "The Family Guy," was surprised the day his computer suddenly froze and became completely inaccessible. At risk were irreplaceable personal photos and documents that included a script for a feature film for New Line Cinema called The Refs to be directed by Pete Segal (50 First Dates, Tommy Boy, The Longest Yard).

"The day DriveSavers called with the good news about my recovery, I felt an enormous amount of relief," said Barker. "If I had not been able to recover the script, my feature film career could have taken a rather depressing detour. DriveSavers kept me informed throughout the process and eliminated the fear and frustration from losing my data unexpectedly. If I am in this situation again, I will immediately call DriveSavers."

Barker sent his drive to DriveSavers where it was diagnosed with physical damage, a situation that can lead to permanent data loss if not handled correctly. The company's engineers identified the specific areas of physical damage on the hard drive using a combination of specialized software and proprietary techniques in a Class 100 professional cleanroom. The engineers were able to make a clean image of the critical files; then, DriveSavers logical engineers repaired areas of corruption manually by hand until a full recovery was complete. All of Barker's data was returned and he continued to work on his script and running "American Dad".

"Data from digital arts professionals, like Barker, is frequently massive in size and created on special software or hardware," says Scott Gaidano, DriveSavers' president. "It is not unusual for DriveSavers to receive multiple terabytes of data spread out on numerous hard drives. The data can include anything from feature films to albums from major record labels. We have invested in digital arts specific software, hardware and engineering expertise to ensure we can recover the most complex data loss situations for the digital arts community."
