It was exactly one month ago that NVIDIA had delivered the 100.14.03 display driver and today we are reporting on yet another new beta driver in the 100.14.xx series. This time around we have our hands on the NVIDIA 100.14.06 graphics driver, which offers improved notebook support and fixes a variety of minor bugs.

The release notes for the 100.14.06 driver are quite simple: improved notebook support and fixed assorted minor bugs. NVIDIA wasn't specific as to the improved notebook support, but in the README's known notebook issues section TwinView on the Toshiba Satellite 2800 series seems to be resolved as well as non-standard modes on LCD displays. The need for making any changes to the NVIDIA driver with "mobile" kernel options no longer seems to be present. NVIDIA wasn't specific either as to what minor bugs they have fixed, but we are in the process of testing the NVIDIA 100.14.06 driver on a number of different systems to look for any other changes.

Looking to see if this driver has a performance impact on a common Linux desktop setup, we had compared the NVIDIA 100.14.03 and 100.14.06 drivers using an ASUS motherboard with integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 graphics, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, 400GB HDD, and an AMD Sempron 3200+ (AM2). The software had comprised of Fedora Core 6 with the Linux 2.6.20 kernel and X.Org 7.1.1.
