MEPIS LLC  has just released the very primordial  preview of SimplyMEPIS 7.0  on 2nd of August 2007.

If you still remember,  the stable release of SimplyMEPIS 6.5 was released  in early April 2007.  The 6.5

version of  SimplyMEPIS  received heavy  development and testing of  slightly more than three months

before it was released as stable in early April 2007.  So  the stable  version  of SimplyMEPIS 7.0  would

probably be in November 2007.  For your information,  Warren Woodford  had used the Ubuntu Dapper

pool for a mere 2 versions,  SimplyMEPIS 6.0 and 6.5.  It must be good to be back to Debian core(Etch).

I rarely had problem with Debian Linux.

Much better boot splash screen.

The simple KDM login screen. Looks neat!

The preview desktop of SimplyMEPIS 7.0. With the strenght of Debian Etch, my wide screen

LCD monitor with 1680x1050 resolution was easily handled out-of-the-box.

KMENU. This is one area that the developers must strive to improve, especially the layout.

This is one of the fastest and most intuitive GNU Linux installer.

When Knetworkmanager failed to configure my notebook's bcm4311 wifi card

the Mepis Network Assistant came to my rescue.

With Mepis X-Windows-Assistant, handling of video card drivers is definitely easy.

Here you can see Konqueror, Konsole, Gimp, Firefox, Openoffice and Kmplayer.
