Project Nemo: when file managers and calendars converge

Nemo is an experimental calendar-based file management system for Linux.

The Nemo project is a new, experimental file management tool for Linux that provides a unique calendar interface and leverages indexing systems like Beagle and Tracker.

Documents, PDFs, images, videos, and compressed archives are displayed as items in a calendar based on the dates that the files were last modified. The calendar view can be customized to show a day, week, month, or year. Users can also mark files with stars to denote heightened significance or apply custom tags and filter based on them.

Users can see thumbnails for media files by hovering over the items in the calendar view. The day view displays full thumbnails in a tile layout with additional file information. Clicking a file will cause it to open in program that is affiliated with the file type.

Nemo is currently still in the prototype stage and isn't quite robust enough for day-to-day use yet. At the present time, it is extremely resource intensive and a bit sluggish. Despite the weaknesses of the current implementation, the underlying concepts behind the program are extremely innovative and seem to have a lot of value.
