Project Harmony Launches Today

"Project Harmony is like Creative Commons for contributor agreements. I’ve been a long time believer in this idea myself, but as I watch the evolution of technology I’m beginning to question its value and underpinnings. Myst Online Alive, Going Open-Source

For those who were unaware, Myst Online: Uru Live for the PC lives. Again. In fact, the game has now gone open source, granting a whole plethora of new possibilities for the persistent universe based on Cyan Worlds' classic Myst franchise.

But first a little background. Myst Online was originally the multiplayer component to 2003's Uru: Ages Beyond Myst PC game.

In this tutorial I will describe how to configure mod_compress on a Lighttpd web server (on Debian Squeeze). mod_compress allows Lighttpd to compress files and deliver them to clients (e.g. browsers) that can handle compressed content which most modern browsers do. With mod_compress, you can compress HTML, CSS, Javascript, text or XML files to approx. 20 - 30% of their original sizes, thus saving you server traffic and making your modem users happier.
