Government of Paraguay Commits to FLOSS

The government of Paraguay has embarked on an ambitious project with the aim to implement on an exclusive basis open source software (OSS) in all government agencies in 2012.

Saving resources and gaining independence are two key issues facing the government of Paraguay in IT. Using FLOSS will solve both issues. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, alone, expects to save $4million. For the whole government it will be a tidy sum. The government also wants to determine when and how to change the software on its computers without interference by corporate greed.
