In this tutorial were going to set up a glusterfs cluster with a replicated folder for use as webroot (/var/www/html) for our webservers. This means that all the servers we run have the same files in the webroot. I’ve run this set-up on Raymii.org in combination with a Round-Robin DNS on 8 OpenVZ servers. I’ve now switched to something different because GlusterFS consumed more ram than available on my low-end servers. Note that this only covers file-replication, not database replication. This for example can work good for static media files (images, video) or websites that run without a database (like mine, or static html). In combination with a round-robin DNS it provides a semi-HA setup.
