Free Software Feature Enhances IM with VoIP.

San Diego, California - July 15, 2004 - Lindows, Inc. today launched PhoneGaim, a software program that combines phone and voice with Instant Messaging. With PhoneGaim, Linux computer users have the option to dial and receive phone calls directly from their PC to any phone, SIPphone or PhoneGaim user. For complete information, screenshots and to download PhoneGaim, please visit http://www.phonegaim.com.

"With the combination of phone calling and Instant Messaging, PhoneGaim transforms a Linux computer into a total communication device for voice or data," said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows, Inc. "By using PhoneGaim, users can avoid expensive phone charges by calling computer-to-computer or computer-to-telephone. It also opens up a whole new world of phone features and management tools for home and business customers."

PhoneGaim was created by adding SIP, an open and popular VoIP standard, to Gaim, a popular instant messaging software which works with IM services such as AIM, MSN, ICQ and Yahoo! PhoneGaim allows Linux computer users to send and receive phone calls from other computers, SIPphones or traditional telephones. Because the phone feature is combined with IM, the buddy list is shared, eliminating the need for two separate lists and providing one resource to manage voice and data communications.

Once PhoneGaim is activated from a Linspire computer and a SIP number is assigned, the users buddy list will be updated with a phone icon. To intiate a call, the user clicks on the phone icon from any Internet-connected PC with a microphone and speaker. If the caller does not answer, a voicemail message will be routed to their email address for easy pickup and reference. A SIP handset can also be purchased (sipphone.com/siphandset) which connects to your PC's audio input/output ports. When you pick up a call, the audio and mic are routed through the handset.

PhoneGaim can place high quality calls to anywhere in the world, while at the same time avoiding traditional phone charges. Whether you're at home, traveling or in your office, calls can be made wirelessly or wired using a WiFi or ethernet connection. Additionally, a full set of free features such as voicemail to email transfers, conference calling and online account management is also offered to PhoneGaim users. As an added bonus, every PhoneGaim user will receive 5 free, 1 minute calls per day to 10 select countries such as the UK, France, Singapore and the U.S., opening up over 1 billion phone numbers to traditional phones. Please visit http://www.linspire.com/freeminutes for further details. For further savings, rates as low as 3 cents per minute can be purchased at http://www.sipphone.com/minutes.
