MySQL's creator on why the future belongs to MariaDB

When Oracle purchased Sun in April 2009, MySQL creator Michael "Monty" Widenius saw a bleak future ahead for the database, which Sun had snapped up in 2008. The day the purchase was announced, he forked MySQL, launching MariaDB.
