Linux Networx to Build one of the largest Intel Xeon EM64T-based Clusters

SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Linux Networx announced today its support of the new Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processors with Intel(R) Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel(R) EM64T). Earlier this year, Linux Networx was selected by the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program to build a 2,132-processor Evolocity II(R) (E2) cluster for the Army Research Laboratory Major Shared Resource Center (ARL MSRC). When installed this fall, the ARL MSRC cluster will be one of the largest deployments of the Intel Xeon processor with Intel EM64T in a production environment.

The system was procured as part of the Technology Insertion 2004 (TI-04) program, an initiative to modernize the Department of Defense high performance computing capabilities. The EM64T processor will provide the system with both 32 and 64-bit compatibility.

"We are excited Linux Networx will be one of the first computer vendors to deliver a solution with our latest Intel Xeon processor, which includes support for DDR2 memory, increased memory addressability and new IO capabilities," said Phil Brace, director of marketing for Intel's Enterprise Platforms Group. "The use of Intel Xeon processors with Intel EM64T and a host of other new technologies in Linux Networx systems proves the technology's capabilities in demanding production computing environments."
