Ubuntu by itself is a great operating system for both desktop and server, but canonical has a grand plan that seems to neglect its best product.

Everyone by now is familiar with the goal of convergence, where one OS powers many devices and adapts to the available screen space. Now while this is a great prospect, canonical should be putting less resources into the mobile division which its failing at due to Android having a large market share, and putting it into to a proper desktop line-up.

Its well known that there have been the odd laptop with Ubuntu installed as an after thought, only available in the US and very under-marketed. You could only find these if you jumped through hoops.

With the polish of unity, and how ubuntu is becoming more of its own brand than another linux distro, maybe it should take a look at Apple Inc, and product its own branded products designed to support Ubuntu to the best if its ability.

I myself would jump at buying a mid range 17 inch laptop which was branded Ubuntu and had a decent design. Now im not saying walled garden here, but just a select few devices that Canonical pushes which work perfect with the OS.

A phone - (only because they wont drop this) A Laptop A Desktop A Server
