Canonical Releases Snapcraft 2.12 Snaps Creator with New Parts Ecosystem, More

Canonical has had the great pleasure of announcing the release of the highly anticipated Snapcraft 2.12 Snappy creator tool for the Ubuntu Linux operating system.

Snapcraft 2.12 is the first release of the software application developer can use to package their apps as Snaps to bring the new parts ecosystem, which allows them to manage remote parts with new commands like search, define, and update.

In addition to the parts ecosystem, Snapcraft 2.12 adds multiple improvements to the parts parser backend, two new plugings, namely gulp and qmake, support for the Subversion open-source revision control system as a source, and the ability for app developers to register their Snap name by using the "snapcraft register" command.
