Open Source developers protest software patents

With Linus Torvalds (Linux), Michael Widenius (MySQL) and Rasmus Lerdorf (PHP) three of Europe's most famous Open Source developers have turned to the EU Competitiveness Council in a bid to prevent the Council from adopting at the end of this week the current draft of the so-called Software Patent Directive. In a joint declaration published at they call the controversial "Directive on the Patentability of Computer-Implemented Inventions" known as the Software Patent Directive "deceptive, dangerous and democratically illegitimate."
