Linspire, Inc. Announces Major Upgrade to Open Source Digital Photo Software

SAN DIEGO, January 12, 2005 - Linspire, Inc. today announced a new version of Lphoto, the complete desktop Linux solution for digital photo management. Besides convenient tools to import, re-touch, manage, and share digital photos quickly and easily, the latest version of Lphoto includes advanced features like album-to-CD and album-to-DVD functionality and options to create MP3 soundtracks on custom DVD slide shows. The photo manager is available for several popular Linux versions, including Linspire, MandrakeSoft, Xandros, Debian, SuSE, and Knoppix. Further details on Lphoto plus screen shots and a flash demo can be viewed at www.lphoto.com.

"The improvements to Lphoto give Linux desktop users and digital camera owners a Linux photo management tool with advanced features comparable to the photo programs on other operating systems," said Michael Robertson, CEO of Linspire, Inc. "Linux productivity software continues to improve at an astounding rate and is quickly catching Macintosh and Microsoft Windows feature sets."

With Lphoto 2.0, users can open photos imported from their digital cameras or saved on their computers, then enhance, retouch, and organize their photos into digital albums. Lphoto even automatically resizes photos with one click for easy emailing and Web page creation. Some of the features that come standard on Lphoto include: red eye reduction, automatic brightness and contrast adjustment, rotate and cropping features, drag-and-drop photo albums, thumbnail resizing, export for slide shows and email, one-click wallpaper creation, plus a litany of other photo management and editing tools.

Besides the standard features, the new version of Lphoto includes many enhancements, including:

  • Advanced Web features: With the new Lphoto templating system, create and share powerful Web templates. Templates can now be created to automatically synchronize Web sites or generate Flash movies and Web-based slide shows.
  • Burn album to Video CD: Use photos to create a slide show on VCD disc for playback in most DVD players. Users can even select MP3 files to use as the soundtrack to a custom DVD slide show. Supports VCD and higher-quality SVCD.
  • Burn album to CD: Copy photos to a CD-R disc to back up photos or to easily share multiple images.
  • Open GL slide show: On Open GL-enabled systems, select from a different image transitions in the slide show.
  • Improved importing and exporting: More exporting options and improved, more intuitive drag-and-drop importing that supports custom sizing.
Lphoto 2.0 includes a simple Plug & Play feature so users can interface with hundreds of digital cameras, including models from Sony, HP, Canon, Nikon, and Olympus. For a list of popular cameras supported by Lphoto, please visit www.linspire.com/digitalcameras.
