Babson's Emerging Technologies session features an overview of technology trends and a detailed look at the status of “alternative” desktops. A testiment to the Linux's gaining market share.

Sam Hiser, Author and Principal of Hiser + Adelstein, will survey the leading enterprise Linux Desktop offerings from Red Hat, Novell and Sun Microsystems; he will discuss the software as well as the availability of support and other important enabling services. Using the Open Source Maturity Model and Fortune 500 companies' IT vendor criteria, Hiser will demonstrate that Desktop Linux has only recently matured to a level acceptable to the enterprise and that widespread adoption is already under way. His presentation will conclude with a discussion about how IT managers and business decision makers can approach and prepare for measured roll-outs in their organizations.

Paul Gillin, Vice President and Group Publisher at TechTarget, will talk about important technology trends, how technology change continues to define the IT landscape, and the ability to predict and adapt to new technology as an essential survival skill. Gillin has tapped the editors of TechTarget’s 29 technology-specific websites and three magazines to get their opinions of which technologies look most promising to them.
