Ron Hovsepian, Novell's new president and chief operating officer, noted that Novell has increased the number of packaged applications supported by SuSE Linux to more than 1,000, up from 42 when it bought the operating system in January 2004. But he also stressed the importance of "driving open source where it is needed and not trying to force-fit it" into user sites.

[Ed: In biz-speak this is what a new executive says to explain why his company hasn't performed well. Out of the other side of his mouth, he will explain that Novell is now the number one distributor of Linux in China. If this is the kind of non-sense we can expect out of Hovsepian, then the board of directors might consider another change. Novell was winning support from the community that makes it run. But if you're going to act like the people who lost the NOS market to Microsoft and became a non-event, then we suggest you lose the Open-Source business. We thought Novell's spin was in the past. - tadelste]
