I reported here about splitting an old Celeron machine and setting up small parts of it as separate Debian machines. In one of these machines, called oc03, I set up Debian Sarge with an Apache2 web server, a Postfix mail server, a MySQL database, PHP, FTP, Webalizer, in short: everything we have here on our real web hosting package as well.

You see: currently, after just visiting some web pages, and with no postfix activity at all, it uses some 27MB swap space. Which means: you’d be better off with at least 192MB or better 256MB of RAM (keep in mind that server boards have onboard graphics, which takes away a bit of these RAM numbers on real hardware). But with memory prices dropping all of the time, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
