I recently read a piece by Christopher Koch in CIO magazine. It highlighted, to me, how far many in senior IT management positions have to go before they truly understand the benefits that the freedom inherent in open source software delivers to them. What follows is my email to Christopher outlining some of the business outcomes and advantages of such freedoms.

If I had done my due diligence properly, I would only have acquired that open source solution after I'd ascertained that there was a broad level of community usage and support for that software. As such, I would now fall back on to that community and work with them to continue the free-access regime and communal support approach to maintaining and updating that software. Full Story |
