Microsoft Comes Out of the Closet on ODF Plugin Project

Microsoft's announcement on plugins sounds like new news - but in fact this project has been ongoing for nine months, as Ray Ozzie let slip last October. Why announce it now?

While this is being treated in the press as "new news," Ray Ozzie actually let slip mention of the project last October. As recently as May 19, Microsoft did not disclose the project when it replied to a Mass. request for information on plugins. So why go public now? Presumably due to the series of pro-ODF announcements made in Europe. It will be interesting to see where the string of concessions eventually ends.
