Tux 500: Linux Sponsors Indianapolis 500

I have seen my fair share of attempts at getting Linux into the mainstream, but the latest marketing ploy nearly raced right by me. What makes this so unique, so different is that this is an endeavor that is set to promote Linux as a concept, a collective mission even.

The idea is a simple one: a marketing team works to ensure that the word gets out about Linux in the form of a sponsored a racecar that’s set to participate in the US-based Indianapolis 500 event. This means that the alternative to Windows, known collectively as "Linux," will be pushed out into new audiences like never before. It's not so much the amount of coverage this is receiving, but it’s the fact that Linux has already made an appearance in an article by SpeedTV (the US cable channel) and is just getting warmed up.
