Linux vs. Microsoft: Get Ready for the Patent War

So, this is what we have been leveled to: patent wars. Earlier this week, I learned that the Linux Foundation has a portfolio of patents they own themselves and are quite willing to take Microsoft on in a patent war. And while I support the Linux Foundation fighting the good fight, I believe there are some issues that had better be considered.

Ah yes, patent reform! It's a grand idea, but unfortunately the Linux crew lacks the lobbying muscle here in the States that Microsoft could gather if things got really sticky. Don't get me wrong, groups like the EFF, among others, will be there alongside the Linux Foundation. However, in the end, the group with the biggest wallet will win in this arena. Full Story |
