Streaming Satellite Channels with Linux for IPTV
Nowadays the main source of digital TV channels is receiving them from satellites using DVB-S technology. This method is noteworthy for simplicity of deploying and variety of multimedia content available on satellites. You can create a Linux-based IPTV streamer (a server that receives satellite channels and multicasts them into your LAN) using some free and/or commercial tools. In this article you can find a detailed technical guide for scanning a frequency range using free tool dvbscan from the package dvb-apps. To receive the DVB-S signal you will require a DVB-S card installed (e.g, SkyStar2) and, certainly, a network interface card. Various useful perl scripts can be found in the article that automate the process of scanning. |
