That this is a second edition of a highly successful book means that it was probably updated for Web 2.0 and advances in JavaScript and Dynamic HTML. Of course, as a "cookbook" what this means wasn't that the theory and overall concepts were updated but the actual practice of developing web content was given a makeover. This doesn't mean that Goodman has produced just a dry list of "recipes" but rather has also added the "why this works" to the mix, so you aren't just stuck with a list of what temperature water boils at what altitude.

It's interesting because the Preface starts out "It may be difficult to imagine that a technology born as recently as 1995 would have had enough of a lifecycle to experience a rise and fall in popularity...". That's more or less like saying "It may be hard to believe that Windows 95 has been around long enough to experience a rise and fall...". You get the idea. While I certainly can recall the general events of 1995 and my own personal experiences, even in the realm of day-to-day living, it seems like a long time ago. In terms of a technology, it seems a lifetime. Of course the technologies related to the web have advanced.
