JeOS.. its marketing not a new concept

JeOS is the latest buzz word in virtualization, however the concept itself is nothing new. Turns out that system administrators have been "hip" for awhile now, as juicing is something very similar to building a chroot environment!

JeOS (Just Enough OS), is just that. A minimum amount of operating system to serve the application you are trying to run. Some of us do this as part of good system administration practices when they strip down Red Hat or Fedora with rpm -e, or when you build a custom chroot environment. Some marketing folks have been "drinking" perhaps too much "special" juice, as they attempt to slap a new label on essentially what distros like Damn Small Linux and Gentoo have done for years. JeOS is nothing special, you are likely already juicing. Spliced Networks' CEO, John Buswell (an engineer not a marketing guy) puts some sense on the JeOS issue over on his blog.
