What happens when you take 200 hardcore roughly 10 project managers heck bent on making sure that your preferred Linux distro has the best driver support possible? You end up with The Linux Driver project.

Any hardware company not wanting to work with this project is insane. Seriously, a group of dedicated people interested in making sure you are selling more hardware due to improved driver support on a near virgin OS market is a match made in heaven. Despite Linux seeing explosive growth, many people are still jumping on board with little to no sign of letting up. So having willing participants interested in helping to develop drivers for your hardware is just a boon to that manufacturer's hardware.
