Book Review: Windows PowerShell Cookbook

According to Microsoft, Windows PowerShell is a "command line shell and scripting language helps IT professionals achieve greater control and productivity". I provided a link to the Windows Powershell page at Microsoft in this review for reference but if you are at all interested in this book, you probably already know the basics of PowerShell, what is it and, to some degree, what it can do. The question is then, does Lee Holmes provide the right "recipes" in his "cookbook" to help you get baking (or is it only half-baked)?

The first interesting thing I noticed was that, at Amazon, the subtitle for this book
is "for Windows, Exchange 2007, and MOM v3". On the book's cover, it doesn't
mention anything about this and just says, "The Complete Guide to Microsoft's New
Command Shell and Scripting Language". The back cover does mention that the
appendixes includes quick reference guides to ".NET, WMI, and COM objects" as
well as stating, "Those who administer Microsoft's Exchange 2007 and System Center
Operations Manager (formerly MOM) will find separate chapters devoted to these
servers". That sets up a certain expectation in terms of specializing PowerShell
for these specific technologies. Full Story |
