Thoughts on being a good System Administrator. Best practices for keeping things running and minimizing the number of off hours work.

Proper system administration, to me, involves 5 main areas:

1. Documentation
2. Repeatability
3. Redundancy
4. Monitoring
5. Backups

Whenever I’m starting a new project or modifying an existing project, I try to consider each of these 5 general topics.
